Following on from a seminal 2014/2015 season which saw ALL squads finish within the top three of their respective divisions, Muckross Hockey Club is delighted to announce its coaching lineup for 2015/2016.
With promotions across the board last season, spearheaded by the First XI’s triumphant return to Division One following a fourteen year absence, Muckross have now made some key appointments to further build on the resurgent successes of recent years.
Former IHA Coach of the Year Una McCarthy remains at the helm of the MHC 1st XI after successfully leading the team to a second place finish in Division Two, thus securing outright promotion to Division One. Joining Una will be Sarah ‘Scottie’ Scott, fresh from steering MHC 3rd XI to automatic promotion to Division Six and guiding MHC Junior As to league final victory last season. An Ireland and Leinster U-16s coach with vast top-flight playing experience, Scott will be instrumental in further strengthening Muckross’ impressive track record of identifying and integrating breakthrough talent from its junior section into the top senior teams.
Irish international super-striker Peter Caruth resumes his role as coach of MHC 2nd XI – and with back-to-back promotions to their credit, his dynamic squad are now primed to step up to the challenges that Division Three will present.
Former MHC 1st XI player-coach Jane Coyne makes a welcome return to the Muckross coaching roster, taking charge of the newly promoted MHC 3rd XI – a core developmental squad, who are ready to embrace a new era of action in the top half of the Leinster league spectrum.
A seasoned stalwart of Muckross Hockey Club, Gordon Watkins will continue as coach of the MHC 4th XI, following on from a superb 2014/2015 season which saw his squad battle down to the wire to secure promotion to Division Ten.
Ali Robinson also returns as coach of MHC 5th XI, continuing to lead her evolving squad in the right direction, onwards and upwards.
Based on demand, Muckross will also be entering a new 6th XI squad into the Leinster league – and all within the club are delighted to welcome back former 1st XI captain Claire Delaney to coach them. Delaney, with vast inter-county camogie experience on top of her hockey credentials, will play an important role in developing new players for competitive action.
Club President Jeananne Fennelly is confident about the coaching appointments for the forthcoming season: “As a Muckross member for over twenty years, I am honoured and excited to be in this position as our players prepare to face the challenges ahead of them this season, with MHC 1s leading the charge back where they belong in Division One. It has been a VERY long road to this juncture – but thanks to the on-pitch passion of our players at all levels and of off-pitch graft of our amazing coaches, managers and volunteers, we’ve made it. With a thriving Junior section that continually nurtures breakthrough talent, and a vibrant Vets section for us all to retire to eventually, our entire club is bracing itself for another bumper season – watch out for the Muckross Magic taking hold across Leinster for 2015/2016!”
Muckross Hockey Club’s senior section caters for players at every level. For the forthcoming 2015/2016 season, we will be fielding six squads across Leinster League divisions 1, 3, 6, 10, 11 and 13, with extensive pre-season training activity for all kicking off in mid-August. We welcome new players of all ages and experience to become part of the Muckross Magic!
